Nebulae

Artist statement:
Nebulae

My youngest son graduated from high school last spring. This is his present from me. It has become a tradition that I embroidery a piece that reflects some aspect of our lives together as each child left our world. This piece developed from my desire to do something which both he and I would be able to relate to. The Hubbell telescope pictures have always intrigued me and the idea of an area of space where stars are born seemed fitting.

With the furrowed appliquéd, the layers of sheer fabrics, couched dimensional threads, seed stitches, and iridescent beads I have tried to show depth, chaos, and expansion-life in the 21st century? My star, a world unto himself, is moving from one universe to a University.
