Artist statement:
Becoming a pilot has effected every part of my life. It is a passion that seeks its own quenching leaving me discomposed with no direction Like art its discipline requires a tremendous amount of time and proficiency leaving me caught between many worlds.

I have always found direction in maps and books and so I seek it in the creative process of this artist's book/map/compass rose. Closed, it is a map folded paper with an accompanying book; open, it is parts of all my worlds-real or imagined.

The dark textured base of this piece show navigational symbols sinking into the abyss of unknown space. The chart arranged as a compass rose on top floats on that space: part aeronautical sectional, part book, part land/water/weather-scape. Layers of meaning pointing to many directions.

The thin silver line of flight wanders, meanders, maneuvers: Dutch roll, turns-about-a-point, stalls, touch-and-goes. Aviation? Life? Direction?
